Milestones

Sterling is now four and a half months old and, at the moment, napping in his crib. He's a good napper, and a good sleeper all around, except for that he goes to sleep at six and wakes at four. If I am lucky. Today he woke at three a.m. all smiles and wide eyes. All the sleep experts say, "It's easy, just move his bed time up!" But it's not that easy when you have a baby heading into meltdown at six o' clock. Ah well, won't last forever! I am trying not to complain, but I'll squeeze one more in: he still wakes every three hours. Ugh. I've talked to a lot of people and it's not the strangest thing in the world, even though most books have all babies sleeping nine hour stretches at this time. Only a month ago he was going down at 5 p.m. and waking every two hours, so I have made some progress.

Otherwise, Sterling is precious. He is very fond of grabbing the toes of both feet and staying that way for a long time. He hasn't rolled yet, but lifts his head and chest like a champ when on his tummy. He likes peek-a-boo and shoving everything in his mouth. Very fond of Mommy's coffee cup and the remote control. He likes to talk to Curious George and Scribbly Dibbly. He stands for a long time with support for balance. He likes to clasp his hands together. Just this week he began sitting unassisted.

The weather is typical February, and it stinks. We had a 50 degree day on Wednesday, and we sat outside for a long time. Sterling seemed to wonder: how is this that we are outside and it's warm? Can't wait for that to become an every day event. We want out!

The sleep issue is so hard. Everyone has their own advice on it, and when you're tired its so easy to get into a mode of "am I doing something wrong?" You sound like you had a far more healthy attitude about your situation than I did with my first. Oy--I should have ignored the pediatrician and just went with my gut!
Your boy is still young--and it sounds like he's thriving, too! Soon enough you'll be outside for lovely long walks in balmy temperatures!
